More The Decemberists Tabs

Artist: The Decemberists
Song: Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right

Tabbed by: Steve Goldberg (shgoldbe@andrew.cmu.edu)

This should work for playing the song solo with a guitar, as I do.
The keyboard line was a little tricky to transcribe, and I just
leave it out when I play the song alone, but the keyboard melody goes
something like this:

   Cmaj7
e|---------------------------------------------
B|-8-8-8-7-7-7-5-5-----------------------------
G|-----------------------5-5-5-----------------
D|-------------------------------5-5-5-7-7-----
A|---------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------

    G
e|---------------------------------------------

D|--5-5-5-4-4-4-5-5-7-7-7-9-9-9----------------

Intro: Cmaj7 G Gmaj7 G Gmaj7 G x2

Cmaj7
The film was a bust but we stayed till the ending
					           G Gmaj7 G Gmaj7 G
Hair all a-mussed but your clothes didn't look so bad
       Cmaj7
And back on the street the rain was descending
					     G Gmaj7 G Gmaj7 G
In cold dirty sheets, so under the awning we sat
And then you hailed yourself a yellow cab
       C G
And I sat for a time by the valets in line and I read what you wrote on the card
	   C G
Above a cowboy you drew a big talk balloon saying "Try not to take it so hard"
	            C
But there's this nagging suspicion that won't leave me alone tonight
							           G Gmaj7 G Gmaj7 G
It's just that everything I try to do, nothing seems to turn out right

Steel guitar:

Cmaj7 G
-----------8-10--12------------8-10-12--8--------8-8---------------------------------------
--------8-------------------8----------------------------10-10-8-8------------------------
--9-9-----------------9-9-----------------------------------------------9-7-9-7-------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We laid on our backs and stared at the ceiling
Messed with your slacks, but ended up just holding your hand
The rain will remain, the TV was telling
A drip of the drain as your legs lift to brilliantly bend
And fall to resting on the ottoman
So we turned off the tube and we crawled to your room leaving discarded clothes in our wake
And we both had some fun, though I twice bit my tongue, and it lasted too long for my taste
But there's this nagging suspicion that won't leave me alone tonight
It's just that everything I try to do, nothing seems to turn out right

La da...

And there's this nagging suspicion that won't leave me alone tonight
It's just that everything I try to do, nothing seems to turn out right

A wink and a wave and you're off to your family
I sit and watch as the taxi lights distantly fade
I guess I always thought it'd end this way
